LATEST NEWS
Nikon, Sony and Canon adding a new tech to fight AI fakes
Nikon, Sony, and Canon are developing camera technology that embeds digital signatures to distinguish authentic images from fakes. This contains data like date, time, location, and the photographer's name, and can be used to authenticate that the image has not been changed in any way.
Sony will add this feature to professional-grade mirrorless SLR cameras this spring via a firmware update, and Canon will release an image authentication app to do the checking.
While this technology offers benefits for journalists and photo editors, it is not a complete solution to the issue of AI-generated deepfakes on social media.
