Samsung is building all-AI, no-human chip factories

Samsung Electronics is working on a big project to make their factories for making chips run on their own by 2030.

This project, which has already started, will use artificial intelligence (AI) so that no people are needed in the factories. Samsung has expressed its intention to utilize AI for optimizing integrated circuit (IC) design, materials development, production, yield improvement, and packaging.

Since last year, Samsung has been focusing on using AI to make the design and making of their chips better, including finding and fixing any problems.

Nearly 25,000 tech workers were laid off in the first weeks of 2024

In 2023, over 260,000 tech jobs were lost, marking the industry's worst year since the early 2000s. Despite recovery in 2024, with lowered inflation and rising consumer confidence, nearly 100 tech firms, including giants like Meta and Microsoft, have already cut 25,000 jobs. These profitable companies are not in financial distress but seem to be following a trend to boost stock prices. This 'herding effect' is seen as the new normal, pleasing investors and Wall Street.

Experts note that layoffs are more about satisfying investors than necessary cost-cutting, leading to a "copycat" trend across the industry. Read more about it here.
